Free Support for Milwaukee Child Care Providers

Being a child care provider is a big responsibility. In addition to providing children with a quality early learning experiences and helping prevent the spread of illness and disease, child care providers must make sure that state requirements, parent requests and children’s needs are met. City of Milwaukee Health Department Child Care Health Consultants (CCHCs) are dedicated to helping child care providers accomplish these goals.

What is a Child Care Health Consultant?

A CCHC is a health care professional, typically a nurse, who serves as resource for child care providers. CCHCs provide valuable, free services to child care providers. A CCHC is standing by to:

  • Promote the highest level of health and safety in child care programs.
  • Provide education and technical support to child care providers on health and safety topics.
  • Serve as a link between child care providers, families, health care professionals and community organizations.
  • Establish a partnership with child care providers to address ongoing issues of health and safety in child care.
  • Encourage child care programs to implement the National Health and Safety Performance Standards, Caring for our Children (CFOC), which promote and establish best practice of child care health and safety issues.

How do CCHCs help child care providers?

  • Coordinate educational training sessions for child care providers.
  • Review center health and safety policies.
  • Immunization review and follow up.
  • Provide telephone consultation to child care providers.
  • Link children, families and staff with a medical home and community resources.
  • Clarify local health and safety policies.
  • Developmental screening for children birth to five.
  • On-site TB skin testing for child care staff.
  • Vision screening for children 3 to 5.
